Here are some movies WD has screened and Abbie's comments about them:
I *loved* "Mushi-shi". The animation is gorgeous (Miyazaki-worthy), and the storyline is rich and intriguing. Each episode has its own mystical puzzle for the protagonist to solve, but it usually focuses more on the people he meets than on he himself.
The Woodland club has also watched "Black Cat V1", "Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid V1", "Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle V1". Next month they voted for "Fruits Basket V1".
"Black Cat" has some artful violence (which the kids liked) mixed with slapstick humor and some nice noir touches. "Full Metal Panic" is rated TV-14, and is *very* bloody for my tastes, but features some interesting characters and a delightfully over-the-top villain (he likes to sing "Ave Maria" during a slaughter he has ordered). It also features some female nudity in which two sisters (who turn out to be psychotic) shower together while talking about having just rescued their Sensei (you get the feeling you've missed some chapters). I enjoyed "Tsubasa", which has a mystically-driven plotline and a quirky mix of characters.
