Teen Tech Week 2008: So You Think Your Robot Can Dance?
**This is the first year FVRL has hosted any district-wide TTW programs**
What went well:
- 5 branches participated: TC, VA, BG, RI, WS (White Salmon did one with their outreach program and one with their YAAB)
- Program was appropriate for a variety of ages and interesting to boys and girls
- Relatively inexpensive
- Investment is reusable (the robot itself)
- While it was a district program, the projects themselves happened locally
What could have been better:
- More branches participating (but truly, I was please to see 5 were interested)
- Offering a video editing workshop to teens who didn't have expereince with it
- Start planning in December instead of January for ease of advertising
The Winner was TC's YAAB group!
Other fabulous entries include:
Vancouver:
White Salmon:
White Salmon/Henkle Middle School:
Battle Ground:
Ridgefield:
Stories That Make You LOL 2007
**This year, the fall writing contest had a humorous theme. In previous years, this contest was known as Tales of Terror**
What went well:
- District-Wide participation
- Positive feedback from patrons, media specialists, and library staff about the topic change
- Smooth judging procedure with a variety of judges from different branches and departments
- Two celebration parties (TC and WS hosted) well attended despite conflicting community events
- All prize winners but one were able to attend a party to receive their prizes
- Winners brought teachers and family members to see them receive their awards
What could have been better:
- Notice to schools further in advance, possibly even with TSR info for better planning
- More promotion from the branch level-- some branch staff has volunteered to personally take info into the schools

YAAB Games 2007
Sack Race & Head on Bat Event Videos
What went well:
- Collaboration between VA, VM, BG, TC, CP branch staff
- Well attended by teens from various areas of Clark County: 74 teens!
- Teens on probation helped set up (for service hours) and stayed to participate in games
- Teens enjoyed the games and the BBQ
- Teens from outlying branches rode to event in library vehicle: this enabled teens without a ride to participate
- Dogtag "souvenirs" let staff see which teens had not registered; teens seemed to really like them
What we needed:
- Better organization on the day of the event
- Clear assignments for staff and teen volunteers
- Bullhorn for announcements

Tales of Terror 2006
What went well:
-
district-wide participation
-
many creative entries
-
fun group of various library employees gathered to judge
-
well attended celebration party that introduced the teens to our new video game equipment
What we needed:
-
there were many more Vancouver participants, better advertising for other areas needed
-
party mostly attended by Vancouver or nearby teens... many winners from other areas did not come to collect their prize due to distance
