Post-Valentine Bash

We wanted to do something that would appeal to both boys and girls so we came up with "Love Stinks: Eat Chocolate!" and here is what we did:

When the teens came in we put name tags of famous couples (Brad and Angelina, Romeo and Juliet, Spiderman and Mary Jane, Tom and Katie, Homer and Marge, etc.) on their backs and they had to guess who they were and then find their partner. This couples' game was a great ice-breaker and worked very well. We also asked them for a title of a love song which we later used to play Pictionary with.

We then moved on to the chocolate games. I had set up three tables. Everybody played every game.

Table 1: Chocolate Guessing

I had cut up 12 different chocolate bars and the teens had to guess the name without smelling, touching or tasting. They really knew their bars very well - most of them got every bar right. Next time I would definitely buy some lesser known bars. I had Mint Patties, Snickers, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers, Twix, Butterfinger, KitKat, Hershey's, Reese's, Almond Joy, Baby Ruth and Nestle Crunch. I made up a cute sheet for them to write their guesses on. The winners got sparkly tattoes. Note: next time we should think of another prize for the boys.

Table 2: Chocolate Tasting

I melted 6 different chocolate bars (Snickers, Hershey's, Nestle Crunch, Reese's, 3 Musketeers and Baby Ruth) in the microwave. Note: 45 seconds for 4 minibars is enough and actually 20 seconds is all you need for the Snickers bar. I stunk up the place by burning it! I made another guessing sheet for this game.

Table 3: Hershey's chocolate kisses relay

We divided the teens in two groups for the unwrapping of a plate of Hershey's kisses while wearing oven mitts. The winners got to eat all the unwrapped kisses.

After the chocolate games we let the teens eat some chocolate! I had bought bags of chocolate candy at Costco.

Then we played Pictionary with the love song titles we had collected for the remainder of the time. We also had a button maker out and the teens who didn't want to play could make some buttons.

We also had a supply of card making materials ready in case we needed something else to do but the two hours were over before we could get to it. (This might be a good activity if the program is held before Valentine's Day) I also had a love bug craft http://www.makingfriends.com/bug/yarn_bugs_holidays.htm in reserve but we ran out of time. Check out these cute things - there is one for every season! Totally adorable. They might appeal to a younger crowd, though.

We had 19 teens attending almost equally divided between boys and girls. It was a fun evening and very easy to set up.
