Teen 'Scape
Teen 'Scape is a weekly program that VA hosts on Fridays from 3-5pm. We set up Dance, Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero and sometimes the Wii or games the teens bring in to share. There are two laptops available for the teens to surf the net (mostly MySpace, Gaia or YouTube). There is also a big pile of board games, which surprisingly are used everytime! Their favorite is Twister, but sometimes they play Texas Hold 'Em or Connect Four. We do provide refreshments: popcorn, candy, soda and the kids bring in treats to share once in a blue moon.
What works: Letting a couple kids in early to help set up, it makes it so much easier. They are also very good about staying after to help clean up.
What doesn't: We haven't established any concrete rules yet, but our YAAB group is working on this. Issues that have come up are running, screaming, wrestling, cussing and hoarding the food and computer time. But generally we have a great group of kids that just come to have a good time.
