Tween Graphic Novel Book Club :

At VM we have done 5 book discussions for 9-12 year olds that feature graphic novels.  A format like this is a lot of fun for participants and staff alike.  Graphic Novels are fantastic for book discussion groups because they often are able to hook reluctant readers.  Participants then have to come back to the library and engage their critical thinking skills to discuss the book they just read. The program is limited to 10 participants through a sign up process.  Meetings usually last about 45 minutes.  I have recieved many compliments from parents since starting this group.  Many of them have expressed the fact that before their children joined this group the didn't like to read and that after participating they are reading on their own and wanting to talk about what they are reading.
